Scripture: Revelation 2:10

“Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer.."

A Word from Pastor Michelle

Last Sunday, we began our new sermon series, “Letters from the Lord: Becoming the Church Christ Desires,” from Revelation chapters 2 and 3. As we continue this journey, I want to carry with us the closing prayer from last Sunday’s message to the church in Ephesus: “Lord Jesus, renew our first love.”

During the past week, I was reminded in a very special way of what this renewed love can look like. I received a surprise visit from Brenda, who brought beautiful, bright wreaths for our front doors. She told me that she thought they would help make new visitors feel more welcome when they come to our church. Her simple act of kindness brought great joy to my heart. It reminded me that our preparation for the future is not only about programs or plans—it begins with preparing our hearts to welcome those who may be looking for a place of community, love, and belonging.

I was also deeply moved as I visited several of our church members who are recovering at home or in the hospital. Each one shared with me how much Wesley Church means to them and expressed their love and concern for our church. Even in the midst of their own suffering and challenges, they continue to carry Wesley Church in their hearts. Their faithfulness and love made me deeply grateful and reminded me that the strength of our church comes from people who continue to love Christ and one another.

As we look toward the future and consider new opportunities to expand and strengthen our ministry, may we first renew our love for Christ, our passion for His presence, and our joy in serving Him. May everything we do flow from that renewed love.

So, Wesley United Methodist Church, let this continue to be our prayer: “Lord Jesus, renew our first love. Renew our love for You. Renew our passion for Your presence. Renew our joy in serving You. And through that renewed love, make us the church You desire us to be.”

In Christ's love,

Pastor Michelle Kim
