Young Peoples Ministries gets new Web site The United Methodist Board of Discipleships Young Peoples Ministries has revamped its Web site, www.globalyoungpeople.org Some of the new features include chat, text message subscriptions, free monthly webinars, grant and scholarship information and weekly stories highlighting ministries with young people throughout The United Methodist Church. Young Peoples Ministries was created to connect young people and those in ministries with young people to each other, to the church, and to God. Fifteen youth and young adult ministry professionals staff Young Peoples Ministries. Additionally, 59 youth, young adults, and adult workers with young people from around the world serve on Young Peoples Ministries. Young Peoples Ministries has the authority to determine and interpret program directions that support its mandate. The Shared Mission Focus on Young People, an organization of youth, young adults, and workers with young people from around the world, considered several structures of the denomination in preparing their legislation. Becoming a division of the General Board of Discipleship was most desired because the mission of the division and the mission of the board most aligned: to nurture, develop, and shape disciples of Jesus Christ. As a division of the agency, the organization can work closely with other divisions in the agency as well as with the other 12 boards and agencies of the denomination. The January issue of the Virginia United Methodist Advocate, the conference monthly newsmagazine, is spotlighting ministries with young adults, one of the key focus areas of the conference in this new year. Programs like the Young Adult Leadership Initiative is seeking to draw those in the 18-35 age-group back to the church. New faith communities are attracting young adults with new ideas and ways to worship God. VocationCARE helps mentor persons interested in entering the ministry. Our campus ministries remain a very important ministry to young people in their formative years. All of these areas are part of this overall effort to focus new energy on building faith in young adults. |

Wesley United Methodist Church 2010 Home Repair Mission Trip, Helenwood, TN |
|
|
| The Wesley Youth completed a roofing project for Mrs. Wilda W.
located in Helenwood, Tennessee. The Youth returned to Wesley on Saturday (July
17th). |
| Home Repair Mission Trip - Background from the
Confrontation Point Ministries website The Goal: Leadership Development & Service: * More than Missions, this trip is designed specifically to develop youth leadership skills. Your youth will grow as they experience our "Show, Help, Let" leadership development process and are placed in leadership roles at worksites, during worship and meal preparation. * Your youth group will share the love of Christ by assisting widows, elderly, disabled and single mothers with their basic housing needs in the Appalachian Region of Kentucky and Tennessee. * You choose the level of worksite complexity, ranging from minor home repairs to major construction. We provide the plans and materials, and your group makes the repairs. * Worksite crews typically serve the same homeowners the entire week, creating an environment where meaningful relationships develop and youth are able to share their faith. * You will enjoy nature as you camp in high quality tents and participate in at least one day of outdoor adventure such as cave exploring, rock climbing, rappelling, or whitewater rafting. * We provide our staff to stay with your group and oversee all of the logistical details so you and your group can focus on service and team building. |
