Joy in the Journey

WELCOME TO WESLEY!

New members are always welcome. If you would like to be baptized or to make Wesley your church home, simply mark your attendance sheet or speak to Pastor Janet.

Please take a minute today to thank God for the ways you are being provided for. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like much, some days it seems like too much, but scripture attests to God’s grace always being sufficient. Be thankful for what you have and be thankful for what you are given. When we truly give thanks for all that God gives, then we become those who want to share with others. We don’t have to wait for Christmas to play secret Santa! As people of faith we can let God use us to do something nice for someone else when they are not watching. Receiving in the midst of giving is a lesson that is learned with frequent practice.    Rev. Janet Salbert

Pastor Janet's Words to the Wesley Congregation

In our Methodist tradition, we have a particular emphasis on the priesthood of all believers, a term coined by Martin Luther during the Reformation. Through baptism, we are all priests. 1 Peter 2:9 reiterates the words that God instructed Moses to tell the Israelites on Mt. Sinai (Exodus 19) "But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light."

Many of us do not consider ourselves leaders, but by the very nature of our faith, God uses us to lead. Our words and actions are used to build up the church, the body of Christ. Leadership is NOT dictatorship, good leadership requires a certain amount of submission. First of all, we must submit to God. As we understand God's grace leading us toward servant ministry, we submit in many ways, giving of our time, our talents, letting go of certitude and opening up to the unknown. Marriage and parenthood are two very natural places for leadership to grow in a family and beneficial for each husband, wife, child, sister and brother. Start by developing leadership in your family.

Leadership building is one of the most important tasks of the church. We all have our part in it. I am so very grateful for the leadership of the laity in this congregation. The UMM, UMW, Boy Scouts, Preschool, Choir, Prayer Shawl, Wednesday Night Bible Study, Sunday School for both adults and children, Fellowship, our website, Finance, Trustees, and SPRC all have gifted leadership. It was a blessing to celebrate Lou's service to our SPRC. We have several more leaders to celebrate in 2012.

I am so excited about our adult Sunday School! Did you know that intentional faith development is one of the five practices of fruitful congregations? Charles Anderson has taken on coordinating the facilitation of our adult Sunday school class, there is shared teaching by each participant and if things keep up, we will need to add another table to seat all the attendees.

Where do you go to ask questions about your faith? Bring it on church! And bring those you know who have questions about God too! Join us at 9:00am on Sunday
