Send A Prayer Request Directly to Rev. Janet Salbert

Releaser of Captives, whose grace goes out ahead of us, In stillness and silence, your Presence and power reveals all that keeps us from living fully. Helps us surrender so we can be purified of our idols and addictions. As we break free, others gain their freedom also. May we go forth as monks in the world, gently placing each step and extending our hands with mercy and peace. Amen. Rev. Janet Salbert Wednesday Simple Prayer 2012

The Upper Room Living Prayer Center

When we grow in a relationship with others, we ask questions, we listen and we share our stories. Prayer is conversation with God. Prayer is how we attend to God's presence in our lives. A regular practice of prayer means that we are invested in an ongoing relationship with God. With God, we can be nothing but ourselves, there is no pretense, no hiding from God. Both our deepest desires to love and our tendency toward sin are exposed to God. In fact, sometimes prayer helps us to learn what God already knows. We experience God's love and forgiveness through times of prayer and devotion.

Both corporate and individual prayer helps us to grow in faith. Jesus taught his disciples to go to a solitary place to pray. We can set an intention for our time in prayer in a variety of ways: to rest in God's love, to intercede for the needs of others, to ask forgiveness and to seek guidance. Prayer strengthens our faith by the power of the Holy Spirit. May you be richly blessed in your relationship with Christ as you grow in prayer.

Our God shows up in some amazing ways. It is the regular practice of prayer that gives God more chances to show up! I was sitting in silence on Saturday morning when a woodpecker joined me at the window and then began knocking. Ask, Seek and Knock and the door will be opened for you, right? CS Lewis said “ There are no ordinary people. You have never met a mere mortal.” Julian of Norwich had mystical experiences of God she called, “Showings.” Whether we see our Holy God through creation, through people or prayer, God draws us close. It is a blessing to lift up the names of those in need so that God’s grace and comfort might reach them in new ways.
